“I’d walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play baseball.” -Pete Rose.
There is no guessing on Pete’s desire. I’m thinking Pete Rose wanted to play and was willing to do whatever it took to do that.
As I watch baseball games and even practices I have seen many players as they approach a close play not slide. At all levels. More in the youth years, but I have seen it just recently at the D1 college level. Players not sliding. COACH KEVIN DOESN’T UNDERSTAND THIS!!!
Not sliding boils down to the lack of desire to compete. Competing is doing everything that you have control over to win that pitch, that out, that tackle, that point, that game. This is not just in sports. It’s in school. It’s in your career. Additionally, competing is not just what you do at the event. What are you doing to prepare for that event? Researching/studying/practicing/weight lifting, etc., all those things that someone can do to put them in the best position to win.
In your career: learn, study, prepare, evaluate, seek self improvement, believe.
In school: listen in class, study outside of class, go to office hours, get a tutor, ask questions. Compete for that knowledge. The grades will follow.
In sports: lift those weights, visualize/meditate over your play, practice those drills, eat and hydrate, get rest, focus, hustle, dive, SLIDE!!
What are you doing to fight, bite, and scratch to win?
Go be the best you. COMPETE!!!
