Welcome!! This is me at Big Bear. That’s in the great state of California. Well, hold on, there are some things that aren’t so great, but that is for someone else to write about. For me, it is really hard to beat the beauty that is here. I am amazed and happy that these places exist. Now that you know what I look like and one place that I have been, I’d like to introduce myself and talk a little about what I want to share via this blog.
I am Coach Kevin. At least that is what the kids I coached called me. I am a former United States Marine Harrier Pilot, husband, father, brother, son, coach, hopefully friend, and in my own mind all around funny guy. If you are unfamiliar with the Harrier, which is starting to exist only in museums, check out the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis movie, True Lies. It’s a movie from the mid 1990s that made the Harrier semi famous. Pretty cool flying scenes. Some accurate portrayals and some inaccuracies, but I digress. Over the years in the different phases and environments of my life I have heard, stolen, made up, used, and/or modified quite a few little sayings, quotes, and one liners that I have used to motivate, teach, maybe inspire, and make laugh. I haven’t really been able to give these a name, but maybe we can start now and call them Kevinisms. How about Normalisms? I don’t know. We’ll come up with some cool branding.
Those Kevinisms/Normalisms are what this blog is going to be about. I am going to write the story behind each of my little quips (for the Marines, that means a witty remark. Nubby, try to keep up.). I actually don’t know how many I have, but maybe I can come up with some new ones. Maybe. Like I said, I have used these in many different situations and I would be interested in some of your stories. I know I am being presumptuous in thinking there will be readers, but I’m hopeful.
There. My first blog. A Gen X’er blogging. Shoot, I may even move on to the interwebs. hashtag smiley face. Now, go watch True Lies and be on the lookout for my first Kevinism/Normalism story. See you on the other side.
